This beach was actually much nicer than I expected. It may not be AS beautiful as other nearby, easily accessible beaches, but it's also not crowded AT ALL. The sand is white and soft and the water to me was fine. Easy free parking. I guess people complain about it being "dirty" but I lived 32 years along the pacific in southern California and compared to that, the Mississippi coast is practically drinking water. Maybe people just assume it's dirty because it's adjacent to the port and your mind starts to wander.... what's all that machinery putting out into these waters....???
In that regard, the beaches in Pass Christian are nicer because you don't have to look at the port, but when you're a little kid who just wants to run and swim and delight in the ocean, the view just doesn't really matter.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nov 12, 2019
Great port and beach. Clean and well maintained. Loved the scenic beauty here. Lot of port machinery and ships on one side and other side of road with beach and the small small raised booth made on water for lot of fishing opportunities.
White sands almost and immense water. Very near to light house too.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Matthew D.Gulfport, MS0153Jun 27, 2023
Not much of a beach. I recommend ship island where water is a little clearer. Look up ship island excursion, where you can take a boat to it.

It's a clean beach. Usually very low key as well. The sand is soft and there's never a lot of people there. It's never crowded. Only problem is that the water is usually a little dirty and it's very shallow for quite awhile. Tried to rent jet skis and they were charging $150/hr (wtf? Might as well buy one for that kind of $$). But overall it deserves 4 stars because of the beautiful clean white sand and lack of crowds!

WOW being from the Gulf Coast of Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, this was an awesome experience! Our beaches are SO crowded but wow, here in the Biloxi/Gulfport area it is absolutely beautiful! Uncrowded! AND to top it all off you can park curbside at the beach. Our new go to place!!!

This beach is fairly small in width, but in length... Its defnitely longer that stretches from Biloxi, to Gulfport, then to Long Beach next to US 90 highway/interstate. Its a quick access to visit different ports of the city in regards to access points to get from point a to point b.
IN the other hand. Some parts of the beach can be hit or miss in regards to how clean the sands are. So keep an eye on the look out for some debris that isnt suppose to be in the beach. Now from hearing rumors about the sewage problems. Dont swim in the water if you have a cut in your skin. Rumors states that you can harbor in flesh eating bacteria and could loose a limb or severely die!
Overall, great place to tan, have a small bon fire get together on the sandy beach (with permit), walk with your signficant other, have a picnic, read a book and hear the ocean waves, watch the sunset, or catch baby crabs.
And speaking form experience weather wise, its a nice grogeous day at least for me passed the Hurricane Season. Am in Biloxi from Dec 2015-March 2016 stationed here for a little bit. So weather is awesome so far!Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Saide H.DeSoto, TX45240Oct 2, 2020
Actually much nicer than I had anticipated there is a ton of activities to do, shopping, boating excursions out to the islands. They have fun fir kids too in the border of Gulfport and biloxi called big play and another speed track that's the fastest on the south. They go 50 mph. I still like along Beach Better.

Beautiful white sand beaches. No crowds. One of the best I've visited. Loved it. Dont overlook Gulfport for your next vacation.

I didn't know what to expect of the beaches in Mississippi but, on our way to Mobile from New Orleans, we decided to take a drive next to the ocean. This was an awesome decision because we were met with blue skies and white sand beaches to stare at.
Unfortunately the beach isn't dog friendly but, we were able to walk the dog on the path next to it. I took my shoes off and walked out onto the fluffy and soft sand; putting my feet in the sand is probably my most favorite feeling in the world. I sat down and let the cool breeze blow through my hair as I watched the waves and the birds without another soul on the beach.
I sat there for a while and then walked a little while enjoying the beauty and then a storm started rolling in so we decided to get off the beach. I don't know how busy this beach usually is but, I was glad to see a well groomed and maintained beach.
If I lived here I would take full advantage of relaxing here!Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - 22521576912Aug 2, 2013First to Review
If you are a beach snob, you will most likely not agree with this review. If you aren't, you will soon know the awesomeness that is Gulfport, MS.
As a child my family and I spent a lot of time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Playing on the beach with my family are some of my fondest memories. Those memories are so strong that I wanted to make sure my children had a chance to experience the same sort of fun.
What Gulfport is:
Gulfport is close to New Orleans. It is between 1-1:15 hour(s) from the city. This is one of the closest beaches to the city, and in my opinion, the best.
The beach does not get a lot of use. Sure plenty of people go to the beach, but there is so much available beach area, it is easy to get your own private spot. Avoid the areas where jet skis and whatnot are rented unless you like large crowds.
Good, family friendly fun. You can drink on the beach (I think), but acting like an ass is discouraged. Some areas actually have Sheriff's Office beach patrol, but most do not. If you want to be foolish, just make sure you get your own private spot.
What Gulfport is not:
Sure the beach is comprised of beautiful white sand, but if you're looking for crystal clear water, you won't find it. The water is clean, but there are lots of sticks, etc. from the nearby barrier islands. It won't kill you, and it may actually build character. If you don't believe me, just look at how awesome I am. I spent lots of time on that beach.
It isn't Miami. Sure you will see the occasional supermodel in a bikini, but this is the beach of real people. This is not the beach to be seen, or see famous people. It is just a great place to soak up the sun (wear sunscreen) and watch the waves.
If you're in the New Orleans area and want a great beach, head on over to Gulfport.Helpful 31Thanks 0Love this 22Oh no 0
